A total of 24 mountaineers have obtained permits to scale Mt Dhaulagiri during the autumn climbing season of 2025. Standing at 8,167 metres, the world’s seventh-highest peak lies in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality-4 of Myagdi district.
According to the Department of Tourism, royalties amounting to Rs 5.71 million have been collected from climbers seeking permission to attempt Dhaulagiri. For foreign climbers, the fee to scale peaks above 8,000 metres—other than Mt Everest—during the spring season is set at 900 USD per person.
For smaller peaks, climbing royalties range between a minimum of 125 USD and a maximum of 400 USD. The Department further reported that 374 climbers have received permits for Mt Manaslu, which rises to 8,163 metres in Gorkha, this autumn.
Mt Manaslu has consistently been the most popular destination for climbers during the autumn season, while Dhaulagiri ranks second in terms of permits issued. Hari Prasad Tilija, a ward member of Dhaulagiri-4 and hotel operator at the Italian base camp, noted that mountaineers, Sherpas, guides, porters, and other support staff have already begun arriving at the base camp.
This year, expedition teams are approaching the base camp via Marpha in Mustang, travelling through Yak Kharka. The Mustang route has been chosen as the trail through Mudi Bagar in Dhaulagiri Rural Municipality is currently damaged, lengthy, and difficult to traverse.
