Blackheath’s award-winning Nepalese restaurant, Everest Inn, is delighted to announce
the return of its famed Laughing Buddha Statue, which will be proudly displayed at the
restaurant from 13th January to 12th February 2026.
For many years, the historic statue stood at the entrance of the former Laughing
Buddha Chinese Restaurant, becoming a familiar and cherished symbol of joy. When
Everest Inn later took over the site, owner Yadav ensured the statue was lovingly
preserved, relocating it to his own garden where it has remained ever since – still
continuing the time-honoured tradition of rubbing its bely for good luck.
Over time, the Laughing Buddha Statue has never been forgotten with customers
frequently reminiscing and asking, “Where is the Laughing Buddha?”.
To honour that deep community affection and nostalgia, the statue will temporarily
return to its former home for a special four-week reunion. During its stay, guests are
invited to dine, enjoy the restaurant’s warm and vibrant atmosphere, and uphold the
tradition of rubbing the Buddha’s bely for New Year blessings of luck, fortune and
happiness.
“We’re thrilled to bring the Buddha home, even if just for a short while,” said Everest Inn
owner Yadav. “It holds great sentimental value for our community, and we can’t wait
to see the smiles it brings back!”
The return of the Laughing Buddha marks a joyous moment for both long-term locals
and new visitors – celebrating tradition, culture, community and the power of shared
stories.
