In a significant diplomatic exchange, Nepal’s newly appointed Prime Minister, Rt. Hon. Mrs. Sushila Karki, held a telephone conversation today with Indian Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The discussion underscored the enduring partnership between the two nations and highlighted shared priorities in governance, youth engagement, and regional cooperation.
Prime Minister Modi congratulated Mrs. Karki on her historic appointment as Nepal’s first female Prime Minister, describing it as a milestone for democratic representation in South Asia. He also expressed heartfelt condolences for the lives lost during Nepal’s recent youth-led movement, affirming that India stands in solidarity with Nepal during this critical juncture.
In addition, Prime Minister Modi extended warm wishes to the people of Nepal on the occasion of National Day (Constitution Day), recognizing the importance of the country’s democratic progress.
Prime Minister Karki responded with birthday greetings to Prime Minister Modi on his 75th birthday and thanked him for his message of support. She emphasized her administration’s commitment to addressing the demands of Nepal’s youth, stating, “Responding to the call of the recent Gen-Z movement, elections will remain the topmost priority of the present government. We are determined to deliver accountable, responsive, and corruption-free governance that reflects the aspirations of the youth.”
Prime Minister Modi assured full support and cooperation aligned with the priorities of the Government of Nepal.
Prime Minister Karki also reaffirmed the strength of Nepal–India relations, noting that “the historical and close relationship between our two countries will continue to be strengthened by multifaceted people-to-people ties.”
