Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli has assured that Nepal’s government is fully committed to completing the country’s transitional justice process. Speaking at a national conference on transitional justice in Kathmandu, he emphasized the need to review past efforts and take effective steps toward justice.

The event was organized by the Accountability Watch Committee and the Conflict Victims’ Organization. PM Oli highlighted the importance of ensuring justice for victims and making the process transparent. “We must work together to bring real results,” he said.

    Bringing Justice Through Unity

PM Oli stated that Nepal’s federal parliament had passed the transitional justice bill with full support from all parties. This law aims to resolve past conflicts and ensure victims receive justice.

To further this goal, political leaders have formed a committee to appoint members to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission and the Commission on Inquiry of Enforced Disappeared Persons. “We have waited 18 years to complete this process. Now, we must act,” he urged.

    Protecting Human Rights and Peace

The prime minister stressed that those guilty of human rights violations will be held accountable. “Nepal wants to heal and move forward. We have rejected violence, and now it’s time to secure justice for victims,” he added.

He also warned against turning transitional justice into a political issue. Instead, he called for practical solutions and international support to help Nepal complete this process in its own way.

PM Oli disagreed with suggestions to observe the conflict as a national holiday, arguing that such actions may cause more harm to victims. He urged leaders to focus on meaningful change rather than symbolic gestures.

    Nepal’s Commitment to Democracy

Prime Minister Oli strongly affirmed that Nepal will remain a federal democratic republic, a system built on the struggles and sacrifices of its people. “Our country’s stability and future depend on protecting democracy,” he said.

The conference was attended by Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba, along with CPN (Maoist Centre) Chair and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda.’ Their presence showed a unified effort among Nepal’s leaders to complete the peace process.

As Nepal moves forward, national unity and global cooperation will be key in achieving lasting peace and justice.
