Kathmandu – Zonta Club Kathmandu celebrated International Women’s Day as Yellow Rose Day, recognizing women who have made a big impact in their fields. The event, held on Sunday, honored women who inspire young girls to follow their dreams.
Celebrating Women’s Achievements
Bina Rana, President of Zonta Club Kathmandu, shared why this event matters.
“Yellow Rose Day is about strength, leadership, and gender equality. This year’s IWD theme, #AccelerateAction, pushes us to honor women who break barriers, challenge norms, and inspire change. Their success proves progress is possible, and recognizing them motivates others.”
Women Making a Difference
This year’s Unsung Heroes Award winners were:
- Bivisha Mathema Shrestha
- Binita Adhikari
- Sunita Chidimar
- Arika Gurung
The Princess Helen Shah Inspirational Woman of the Year Award went to Shyam Badan Shrestha for her outstanding contributions. The Amar Rana Game Changer Award was given to Palesha Goverdhan for her groundbreaking work.
Scholarships for Future Leaders
Young women received scholarships to support their education:
- Indrakala Scholarship for Women in Aerospace: Ankita Bhattarai
- Jyoti Scholarship for Women in Business: Oshika Shrestha
- Jyoti Scholarship for Women in STEM: Anupa Baral
- Indrakala Scholarship for Young Women in Public Affairs: Smriti Kunwar
Honoring Women in Media
Three outstanding women editors were recognized with the Leadership in Media Award:
- Babita Basnet – Gender and Social Inclusion
- Sonila Awale – Climate Change
- Charu Chadha – Business and Finance
Empowering Women and Girls
This year’s theme, “For ALL Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,” highlights the need for equal rights and opportunities. It also focuses on empowering young women and girls as future leaders.
Through these awards, Zonta Club Kathmandu continues its mission to create a better world for women and girls and encourages the younger generation to strive for success.
