Speaker Devaraj Ghimire has called on all political parties to protect the dignity of the parliament by promoting unity, cooperation, and meaningful discussion. His message came on the occasion of Parliament Day, which celebrates Nepal’s journey toward democratic governance.

He said that parliament must reflect the will of the people and called for political parties to come together to meet public hopes and national goals.

Each year, Nepal marks Parliament Day on Ashad 16, remembering the first meeting of the country’s elected House of Representatives. On this day, citizens, leaders, and officials honor the progress of democracy and recognize the role of parliament in shaping the nation.

In his message, Speaker Ghimire offered his deep respect to those who lost their lives in the fight for democratic rights. He also remembered the efforts of past political leaders who worked hard to build a system that listens to the people.

Speaker Ghimire thanked the active role of the independent press, civil society, and informed citizens. He said their efforts have helped make the parliament more open, answerable, and helpful to the public.

He noted that Parliament Day is not just a celebration. It is also a time to remember the values of democracy, the power of the constitution, and the duties of representatives. He emphasized that lawmakers must be aware of their responsibilities and always work for the people.

In his message, the Speaker explained how important the parliament is to a working democracy. He said it is the place where the people’s power is used through elected representatives. He added that laws and decisions made in parliament must reflect what citizens truly want.

Speaker Ghimire stated that policy-making, law-making, and checking how well rules are followed all take place in parliament. These duties are handled through clear and fair rules. He said parliament should act as a voice of the people and follow their needs and opinions.

One key point he made was about taxes. He said the parliament must approve any tax proposals before they can be put into action. This rule ensures that people are not taxed without their consent, a basic idea in a democratic system.

He also reminded the parties that the real spirit of democracy lies in communication, compromise, and working together. Only by following these values can the parliament serve its true role and meet the people’s demands.

Speaker Ghimire urged the leaders of all political groups to make dialogue and cooperation a habit. He stressed that political differences should not get in the way of national interest or public welfare.

In closing, he said that the parliament should act as a center of unity. He believes that respect, discussion, and shared goals can solve many of the nation’s challenges. Through such efforts, parliament can remain a place of trust and pride for the people.

Speaker Ghimire’s message was a strong call for parties to set aside conflict and put the country first. His remarks offered a timely reminder of the values that support democracy and the actions needed to protect them.
