Bagmati Province delivered a commanding performance to defeat Koshi Province by 131 runs in the Prime Minister’s Cup National Men’s One-Day Cricket Tournament. The match took place on Saturday at Deukhuri Cricket Ground in Lamahi, Dang.
Bagmati’s Bowling Masterclass Restricts Koshi to 109 Runs
Chasing a target of 241, Koshi Province struggled against Bagmati’s disciplined bowling attack and was bowled out for just 109 runs in 25.3 overs. Ais Bhattarai was the top scorer for Koshi with 37 runs, while Sujan Thapaliya contributed 25 and Firdosh Ansari added 24. However, the remaining batters failed to reach double figures, leading to Koshi’s downfall.
Bagmati’s bowling unit was spearheaded by Surya Tamang, who delivered a stellar performance, claiming five wickets for just 27 runs in nine overs. His precision and control dismantled Koshi’s batting order. Rijan Dhakal took three wickets, while Sakar Gajurel chipped in with two, ensuring Bagmati’s emphatic victory.
Bagmati Posts Competitive 240 Runs in First Innings
Earlier, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, Bagmati Province posted a total of 240 runs in 49.3 overs. The team’s batting display was steady, with contributions from multiple players.
Shubha Kansakar led the charge with a well-compiled 39 runs, followed by opener Ashutosh Ghiraiya, who added 29. Ishan Pandey and Bipin Acharya both chipped in with 25 runs each, while Rijan Dhakal remained unbeaten on 22. Other valuable contributions came from Sonu Devkota (18), Surya Tamang (17), and Gautam KC (16), helping Bagmati reach a competitive total.
Koshi’s Bowling Struggles to Contain Bagmati’s Innings
Koshi Province’s bowling unit faced challenges in containing Bagmati’s batting momentum. Sujan Thapaliya and Prakash Karki took two wickets each, while Gyanendra Shrestha, Dipesh Kandel, and Firdosh Ansari managed to take one wicket each. However, the bowlers failed to apply sustained pressure, allowing Bagmati to reach a defendable total.
Points Table Update: Bagmati Moves to Sixth Place
This win propels Bagmati Province to sixth place on the points table, securing six points from seven matches. On the other hand, Koshi remains at the bottom, occupying the 10th position with just two points from the same number of games. With the tournament progressing, Bagmati will aim to maintain their momentum, while Koshi must regroup to improve their standings.
