Raj Kishor Yadav, the head of Nepal’s International Relations and Tourism Committee, emphasized the need for closer Nepal-India ties. Speaking at a conference in New Delhi, India, on Wednesday, he urged both nations to work together for progress.

    Strengthening Nepal-India Relations

During the event titled Nepal-India Relations, Relevance of Buddha’s Teachings in Neighbourhood Diplomacy, Raj Kishor Yadav highlighted the deep cultural and historical bonds between Nepal and India. These shared connections offer numerous opportunities for mutual growth. Additionally, he stressed the importance of promoting religious and cultural tourism, suggesting that developing the Buddhist, Ramayana, and Mahabharata circuits could be beneficial. Such projects would not only enhance tourism but also fortify cultural bonds.

    Boosting Connectivity and Economic Growth

To foster stronger economic relations, Yadav pointed out the need for better transport and digital links. He recommended expediting work on cross-border roads, railways, and pipelines. Moreover, improving energy-sharing networks could significantly benefit both nations.

Apart from infrastructure, Yadav discussed the necessity of increased cooperation in digital payment systems. Facilitating easier transactions would simplify business operations and daily life for citizens. Furthermore, he encouraged Indian businesses to explore investment opportunities in Nepal’s hydropower, tourism, and industrial sectors. The recent energy deal between Nepal, India, and Bangladesh, according to him, paves the way for new regional trade opportunities.

    Promoting Religious Tourism

Enhancing religious tourism remains another key focus area. Yadav proposed creating a Buddhist circuit linking Bodhgaya in India with Lumbini in Nepal, the birthplace of Buddha. In addition, he suggested expanding the Ramayana Circuit to include Ayodhya and Janakpur, while also improving the Mahabharata Circuit to connect sites linked to the Pandavas.

By improving these circuits, both nations could attract more visitors while also strengthening their cultural ties. Therefore, he urged both governments to collaborate on enhancing infrastructure in these locations.

    Role of Regional Groups

To further regional cooperation, Yadav advocated for better utilization of organizations such as SAARC, BIMSTEC, and BBIN. These groups, in his view, play a crucial role in boosting economic ties and ensuring regional stability. As politics continues to shape international relations, Nepal and India must navigate diplomatic challenges while fostering stronger partnerships.

Nepal and India, through strategic collaboration, could enhance trade, security, and development. Ultimately, these efforts would contribute to the prosperity and stability of the entire region.

In conclusion, Yadav called for sustained efforts toward strengthening Nepal-India relations. He reiterated that improved infrastructure, increased investments, and stronger cultural connections would drive mutual growth.

At a time when both nations seek avenues for expansion, prioritizing economic cooperation and development remains essential. With continuous collaboration, Nepal and India can achieve shared prosperity and long-term regional stability.
