Sheep and Himalayan mountain goats (chyāngra) brought from Mustang for the Dashain festival have now been delivered to Sallaghari, Bhaktapur.

In Bhaktapur, traders are selling live chyāngra at Rs 1,300 per kilogram. Trader Chitra Bahadur Silwal explained that transportation costs have risen as local governments along the Mustang–Kathmandu route levy taxes at various points.

He said the livestock are sold only after veterinary doctors have carried out health checks. The Department of Livestock Services has arranged for health inspections of livestock and poultry at Sallaghari between 22 September and 1 October.

At the same time, the Food Management and Trading Company has announced it will not be selling goats, rams, or chyāngra this year.
