A mother’s world has been shattered by the tragic deaths of her son, daughter-in-law, and two grandchildren in Manassas Park, Virginia. Laxmi Pariyar, residing in Tokha, Kathmandu, spoke with her son Santosh Pariyar and granddaughter Saina via video call on June 5. The next day, she received the devastating news that they, along with Anju Shrestha and two-year-old Om, were found dead in their apartment.
Santosh, 38, his wife Anju, 36, daughter Saina, 8, and son Om were discovered with gunshot wounds in their ground-floor apartment on Lanae Lane. Police are investigating the incident as a possible murder-suicide .
Laxmi and her husband, Nir Bahadur Damai Khati, had applied for visas to visit the U.S. but were denied. “If only we had been able to see their faces one last time,” Laxmi lamented. “Now, there’s nothing but pain.”
Their younger son, Subash, is awaiting decisions on the cremation. “It costs a lot to bring the bodies back to Nepal. There’s a possibility they may be cremated in the U.S. soon,” said Nir Bahadur. “We told Subash to perform the funeral rites there. We’ll do what we can from here.”
