The 15th meeting of the Patan Academy of Health Sciences (PAHS) took place recently under the leadership of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. Prime Minister Oli, who also serves as the Chancellor of the Academy, led the meeting. During this meeting, the Academy’s plans, programs, and budget for the fiscal year were approved.

    Plans and Programs Approved

The PAHS presented its multi-year master plan during the meeting. This plan had already received approval from the 9th Assembly of the Academy. It outlines long-term strategies for the Academy’s growth. Now, with approval in hand, PAHS will submit the plan to the government of Nepal and the Ministry of Health and Population for further implementation.

By approving this plan, the meeting marked a key step in ensuring the Academy’s continued success in health science education, research, and medical advancements in Nepal. The multi-year master plan will help improve health education standards and contribute to building a stronger healthcare system in the country.

    Nominations and Appointments

The meeting also saw the nomination of a new member to the PAHS Assembly. Professor Dr. Brahmadev Jha received this nomination based on a recommendation from the executive committee. Dr. Jha has a wealth of experience in health sciences, and his appointment will strengthen the Academy’s leadership in both academic and operational activities.

Prime Minister Oli expressed strong support for these decisions. He stressed the importance of building a solid foundation for the Academy and ensuring it receives effective leadership. He also emphasized that such appointments are essential for keeping the Academy on track as it continues to provide high-quality education and training for future health professionals.

    Salary Increase Proposal Under Review

One important topic discussed was the proposal to increase the salary and allowances for office-bearers, teachers, and staff at PAHS. The proposal suggested a five percent increase, which the Academy believes will improve employee morale and welfare.

Prime Minister Oli, however, instructed that the proposal undergo further study and internal discussion before approval. He stressed that any changes to salary and allowances should be carefully reviewed to ensure they are justified. The salary increase will only proceed if the internal evaluation supports the need for it.

    Focus on Rules and Regulations

Prime Minister Oli also highlighted the importance of adhering to the rules and regulations governing the Academy’s operations. He made it clear that PAHS must make decisions based on legal frameworks. He also stressed the need to complete the annual budget and programs on time and in accordance with the law.

He urged the Academy’s leadership to ensure that the approved budget and programs are submitted to the relevant government bodies as soon as possible. This will help keep the Academy’s operations in line with legal and financial guidelines.

    Financial Impact Considerations

While the meeting approved the fiscal plans and budget, Prime Minister Oli emphasized the importance of carefully evaluating long-term financial impacts. PAHS must consider the financial effects of its decisions to ensure the Academy remains sustainable in the future.

PAHS must balance its growth with its resource needs. Financial stability is crucial, and the Academy needs to plan its decisions carefully to avoid long-term issues. Evaluating each decision’s financial impact is essential to ensure continued progress.

    Strategic Vision for the Future

PAHS, established to improve health education and research in Nepal, has made remarkable progress. Its mission is to develop skilled healthcare professionals and promote medical research. As one of the leading institutions in medical education in Nepal, PAHS continues to shape the future of the country’s healthcare sector.

The approval of the multi-year master plan is part of a broader strategy to help PAHS meet the healthcare sector’s growing demands. The Academy must continuously adapt to changing healthcare needs. This includes improving educational programs, expanding research facilities, and upgrading healthcare infrastructure.

    Challenges and Opportunities Ahead

Despite its progress, PAHS faces challenges in areas such as resource allocation, faculty recruitment, and infrastructure development. However, the approval of the master plan and fiscal budget provides an essential foundation for addressing these challenges. PAHS is now in a stronger position to use its resources effectively to improve education, research, and contribute to the country’s overall healthcare system.

Looking ahead, PAHS remains committed to overcoming these challenges. The Academy will provide an environment where students, faculty, and healthcare professionals can thrive. With continued investments in infrastructure, research, and professional development, PAHS is on track to become a top institution for health sciences in Nepal and beyond.
