Nepal recorded a total of 577,689 foreign visitors in the first half of 2025, according to data from the Nepal Tourism Board. This number shows a slight drop of 0.91 percent compared to the same period last year, when 583,011 tourists visited the country.

Despite the small decline in the overall figure, there was a positive trend in June. In that month alone, 76,425 tourists entered Nepal. This was slightly higher than the 76,333 arrivals recorded in June 2024. The June 2025 figure also marks a full 102 percent recovery compared to pre-pandemic June 2019, when 74,883 tourists had visited.

This growth shows that Nepal continues to attract global travelers, bouncing back after the slowdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The recovery trend began in 2024, and the country is now seeing more stable tourist inflows month by month.

March 2025 had the highest number of arrivals in the first half of the year, with 121,687 tourists entering the country. April followed with 116,490 visitors. In the earlier months, 79,991 tourists came in January, 96,880 in February, and 86,216 in May.

June also showed a strong turnout in terms of origin countries. India led the list with 32,662 travelers. The United States followed with 9,696 visitors, while China came in third with 6,736. Other notable arrivals included 5,449 from Bangladesh, 2,284 from the United Kingdom, and 1,831 from Australia.

Nepal also welcomed 1,348 tourists from Malaysia, 1,167 from Bhutan, and 1,019 from Japan during June. Indian tourists made up 42.7 percent of the total arrivals that month. Tourists from the U.S. accounted for 12.68 percent, while China represented 8.81 percent. Bangladesh and the U.K. contributed 7.12 percent and 2.98 percent respectively.

These numbers show that Nepal remains a key travel spot for its South Asian neighbors and continues to attract visitors from across the globe.

Tourist arrivals began to rise again in 2024, after a sharp fall during the pandemic years. That year, Nepal welcomed over 1.147 million tourists, marking a 13.1 percent rise from 2023. In 2023, 1,014,882 foreign travelers had visited the country.

Before the pandemic hit, Nepal had recorded around 1.19 million tourists during the 2019/20 fiscal year. While current numbers have not yet reached that peak, the upward trend reflects growing global confidence in traveling to Nepal again.

Nepal’s appeal lies in its natural beauty, rich culture, and unique adventure options. From the Himalayas to ancient temples, the country offers a wide range of experiences for travelers of all types. Trekking, mountain climbing, wildlife safaris, and spiritual journeys continue to draw both first-time and repeat visitors.

Tourism experts believe the country could surpass pre-pandemic numbers soon if the current pace continues. They highlight the need for better infrastructure, reliable transport, and stronger marketing campaigns to boost arrivals even further.

With growing interest from regional and long-haul markets, Nepal tourism 2025 could still end the year on a strong note. Early figures suggest that efforts to rebuild the sector are working. The data also points to rising demand for sustainable and experience-based travel, areas where Nepal has a strong edge.

As the year continues, all eyes are on how the remaining months will perform. The tourism industry, a major part of Nepal’s economy, is hoping for continued growth and a return to record-setting figures.

Nepal’s performance so far in 2025 shows both resilience and promise. With global travel recovering, the country is once again positioning itself as one of Asia’s top destinations.
