Authorities in Kathmandu have arrested a 33-year-old man in possession of a pistol, ammunition, and illegal drugs. Sudan Joshi, a resident of Gokarneshwor Municipality-2, was taken into custody on Monday night after law enforcement officials discovered the weapon, 10 rounds of bullets, and contraband substances during a search of his residence.
Arrest and Seizure Details
Police from the Traffic Police Office, Swayambhu, conducted a search of Joshi’s room, where they found the firearm, a magazine, and a stash of Tramadol tablets. Following the discovery, officers arrested him and launched an investigation into the case.
According to authorities, Joshi has a history of legal troubles. He has been arrested multiple times in the past for drug-related offenses and disorderly conduct. His recent arrest adds to concerns about the circulation of illegal weapons and drugs in the capital.
Court Extends Remand for Investigation
The Kathmandu District Court has extended Joshi’s remand by five days to allow further investigation. Officials are looking into potential links to illegal arms dealers and drug trafficking networks operating in the city.
A police spokesperson confirmed that a case has been registered against Joshi, and authorities are gathering more evidence to determine whether he has connections to larger criminal operations.
Rising Concerns Over Illegal Firearms and Drugs
Kathmandu has witnessed a growing concern over the rise of illegal firearms and drug-related crimes in recent years. Law enforcement agencies have been intensifying their efforts to curb such activities by increasing surveillance and conducting frequent raids.
In 2023 alone, Nepal Police reported multiple cases of illegal arms possession, with several individuals arrested for similar offenses. The use of unregistered firearms poses a significant threat to public safety, and authorities have been urging citizens to report any suspicious activities.
Authorities Urge Public Cooperation
Officials have called on the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies to prevent such crimes. “The illegal possession of firearms and drugs threatens the safety of the community. We encourage residents to report any suspicious behavior to help us maintain law and order,” said a senior police officer from Kathmandu.
As the investigation continues, police are expected to conduct further inquiries to determine the source of the seized firearm and drugs. Authorities have assured that strict action will be taken against those involved in criminal activities.
