CPN-UML Chair KP Sharma Oli has appeared in public for the first time since his resignation. He was seen at his residence in Gundu, Bhaktapur, accompanied by party leaders and supporters. Oli had remained out of the public eye since resigning as Prime Minister following the Gen Z uprising on 8 and 9 September.
Following his appearance, party members and cadres visited him at his new residence. Many took photographs with Oli before departing. Despite his public presence, Oli refrained from making any comments on the occasion.
The Gen Z-led protests began on 8 September and intensified the following day after gunfire erupted. The demonstrations turned violent, involving vandalism and arson, resulting in significant human, material, and economic damage. It was in the wake of this unrest that Oli chose to resign.
With Oli’s departure from office, an interim administration has been established under the leadership of former Chief Justice Sushila Karki. The House of Representatives has already been dissolved, and the interim government has scheduled the next general elections for 5 March.
