A landslide has blocked a key part of the North-South Koshi Highway, disrupting travel and transport in Sankhuwasabha district. The slide hit the Phyakre River area in Makalu Rural Municipality-5 early Tuesday morning.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Daksha Kumar Basnet confirmed the dry landslide struck near the river bridge at around 6:00 a.m. This caused the highway to be completely obstructed. The blockage is affecting the Khandbari-Kimathanka section of the highway.

Due to the landslide, vehicles cannot pass this crucial route, which connects several local wards in Makalu Rural Municipality and also limits access to Bhotkhola Rural Municipality nearby. This has left many communities isolated for now.

Authorities have already started working on clearing the landslide debris to reopen the highway. However, no clear timeline has been provided on when the road will be fully accessible again.

The North-South Koshi Highway is a vital route for transportation and trade in the region. Its blockage impacts daily travel, goods delivery, and emergency services for local residents. The affected area relies heavily on this connection for access to markets and services.

Residents and travelers are advised to stay updated with official reports for further developments. Alternative routes are limited, and delays should be expected until the highway is cleared.

Officials are closely monitoring the situation, coordinating cleanup teams, and ensuring safety near the affected zone. Efforts continue to restore normal transport as soon as possible.
