Nepali Congress President and former Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has called for accessible, safe, and reliable transportation services for all citizens. Speaking at an event held at the Nepali Congress Central Office, Deuba highlighted the urgent need to improve road safety and service quality across Nepal’s transportation sector.
Deuba was addressing a program organized by the Nepal Democratic Transport Entrepreneurs Organization on Sunday. He stressed that transport entrepreneurs have a shared duty to ensure dependable transport for the public, while also protecting their own business interests.
He acknowledged the many challenges in running transport services in Nepal, especially due to the country’s difficult geography. Roads in hilly and remote areas are often dangerous, making everyday travel risky for many citizens. Deuba pointed out that road accidents are happening almost every day, putting lives at risk. He said this issue must be taken seriously and addressed with strong action.
Deuba urged transport entrepreneurs to work together and find practical solutions to these problems. He promised that the Nepali Congress would continue to support them in protecting both their businesses and the safety of the passengers they serve.
He also emphasized the importance of working as a team to improve transportation services. He called for a balanced approach where both service quality and business stability go hand in hand.
During the event, Nepali Congress General Secretary Gagan Kumar Thapa also shared his views. He said that the party’s various departments must take active roles in solving problems faced by their sectors. Thapa stressed that public transportation is a key part of a working democracy. A strong and safe transportation network, he said, is necessary for democracy to grow and serve people well.
He added that Nepal should develop its transportation system through greater public partnerships. He described this as a tested model that has worked well in other countries and sectors. By encouraging cooperation between public agencies and private investors, the system can become more efficient, safe, and service-driven.
Thapa also noted that transportation should not be driven only by the goal of making profit. Instead, the focus should be on delivering quality service, using modern technology, and managing the system effectively.
Several other party leaders also spoke at the event. These included Gopalman Shrestha, Shiva Prasad Humagain, Sabuj Krishna Baniya, and Jitendra Kumar Shrestha. Each of them supported the call for better and safer public transportation across the country.
They pointed out that the transport sector in Nepal involves billions of rupees in investments. With such high stakes, it is important to protect the interests of both the investors and the people who use these services every day. They agreed that the transportation system should not only support economic growth but also offer reliable and safe options for people from all regions.
The speakers highlighted the need for improved roads, safer driving practices, and more organized services. They said that with joint efforts from the government, businesses, and citizens, Nepal can build a transportation system that is both modern and secure.
