Bhat-Bhateni Group has started building a modern clothing factory in Bhairahawa, also known as Siddharthanagar. The facility will be set up in Nepal’s Special Economic Zone (SEZ), a hub for new industries.
Businessman Umesh Shrestha and his team placed the foundation stone for the factory. On the same day, Min Bahadur Gurung, the group’s chairman, performed the traditional bhoomi puja and officially launched the project.
This project signals Bhat-Bhateni’s entry into the garment industry. Chief Operating Officer Panu Paudel said the new plant shows the group’s plans to grow beyond retail. He also said the move reflects Nepal’s improving industrial landscape.
Bhat-Bhateni is best known for its wide network of 27 retail stores across Nepal. These outlets sell clothes, groceries, electronics, and household items. The company employs over 22,000 people and plays a key role in the country’s economy.
Beyond business, Bhat-Bhateni is active in social work. It has given scholarships to students from remote areas and helped build a 72-bed emergency unit at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.
The new Bhat-Bhateni apparel industry project is expected to bring jobs, increase local production, and support Nepal’s goal of becoming a manufacturing hub.
