Jordan has announced it will soon host a Nepali business delegation. The purpose of the visit is to explore new opportunities for trade and investment between the two countries. The news was shared at a special event in Kathmandu, which marked 60 years of diplomatic relations between Nepal and Jordan.
The announcement was made by Yousef Mustafa Abdelghani, the non-resident Ambassador of Jordan to Nepal. He said that both countries could benefit from closer cooperation, especially in business sectors such as tourism, manufacturing, and medicine. He also said that private businesses are the main drivers of economic growth and that Jordan is ready to work with Nepali entrepreneurs.
During his visit to Nepal, Ambassador Abdelghani also presented his official documents to President Ram Chandra Poudel. In addition, he officially opened the new Honorary Consulate of Jordan in Kathmandu. This step is seen as a sign of Jordan’s growing interest in building stronger ties with Nepal.
The ambassador also mentioned the large number of Nepali workers already in Jordan. About 3,000 Nepali citizens are currently working in the country. He thanked them for their hard work and promised that Jordan would continue to improve working conditions. He said the labour agreement signed in 2017 should be strengthened. He also called for better systems to make sure Nepali workers are treated fairly and have access to safe and legal jobs.
The event in Kathmandu was also attended by Nepali government officials. Ramhari Khatiwada, Chair of the State Affairs and Good Governance Committee in the House of Representatives, spoke about Jordan’s positive role in the Middle East. He said Jordan had shown strong interest in building economic links with Nepal and praised its efforts to reduce trade gaps.
Kunal Kayal, the Honorary Consul of Jordan to Nepal, also spoke at the event. He said that Nepal and Jordan could benefit from smart business planning. He suggested that both countries could work together in key areas like clean energy, tourism, and farming. He believes that strong local knowledge and experience will help the two countries form successful partnerships.
Nepal and Jordan began formal diplomatic relations on August 20, 1965. Over the years, the two countries have had friendly relations, but trade has remained limited. However, the recent activities suggest a new focus on building stronger economic ties.
Jordan’s economy is diverse and includes industries like medicine production, mining, digital technology, and banking. The country attracts around 2 billion US dollars in foreign investment each year. It also has strong trade connections with countries in the Gulf and the United States. Jordan is known as a business center in its region, with good transport links and a strong export market.
Jordan’s tourism industry is another strong area. It is famous for historic places like Petra and the Dead Sea. The country also offers modern hotels, safe travel experiences, and natural beauty. This makes it attractive for tourism experts and travel businesses. Nepali companies could work with Jordan in this field and learn from its success.
For Nepal, the visit of the business delegation is an important opportunity. It can help local companies find new export markets. It can also attract Jordanian investors to Nepal. In addition, it offers a chance to share ideas and learn about advanced business methods.
Nepal’s exports are mostly limited to a few items like tea, spices, and handicrafts. Partnering with a country like Jordan could help Nepal increase the variety and value of its exports. At the same time, Nepal could import useful goods from Jordan, such as medicine and industrial tools.
The upcoming visit is expected to include business leaders from different sectors. They may attend meetings, visit factories, and discuss possible trade deals. This could lead to joint projects, shared training programs, and better understanding between the two countries.
The opening of the Jordanian consulate in Kathmandu also shows that both countries are serious about long-term cooperation. A local consulate can help with trade paperwork, legal help, and communication. It can also help Nepali workers in Jordan with job safety and support.
The future looks promising for both Nepal and Jordan. With the right planning and support, both countries can build strong and lasting trade partnerships. This will bring more jobs, better income, and more knowledge sharing.
