Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose visited the India-Nepal border areas to assess security measures, border management, and anti-smuggling operations. His visit focused on strengthening national security and understanding local issues. He met with security personnel, local communities, and officials.

    Meeting with Border Security Forces

Dr. Bose started his tour in Siliguri and traveled to Panitanki, a key border post. There, he met with Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) personnel. The Governor was briefed by Sudhir Kumar, the Inspector General of the Siliguri Frontier, about the security situation. He visited the Border Interaction Team (BIT) checkpoint and praised the SSB for their dedication and hard work in securing the border.

The Panitanki border post is crucial. It serves as a trade hub and a key point to monitor the India-Nepal border. The region has a history of cross-border crimes like smuggling, illegal immigration, and drug trafficking. Dr. Bose emphasized the importance of the SSB in stopping these issues.

    Supporting Local Communities

During his visit to Alipurduar, Dr. Bose met tribal communities, including the Toto tribe. He spoke with the people to understand their challenges and needs. The Governor also honored Padma Shri awardee Dhaniram Toto for his contributions to the community.

Dr. Bose said that the government is working to improve the lives of tribal people. He highlighted various welfare schemes designed to help these communities. The Governor’s visit was aimed at ensuring that the benefits of these programs reach the people who need them most.

Engaging with Local Residents and Students

Dr. Bose continued his tour by visiting Gorsing Basti. He interacted with local villagers, school students, and public representatives. The villagers shared their concerns, and the Governor explained the government’s welfare schemes.

At the same time, students from Sharda Vidya Mandir performed traditional dances and patriotic songs. They showcased their rich cultural heritage, which included performances in Santhali, Rajbanshi, and Nepali styles. Dr. Bose appreciated their talent and rewarded them for their performances.

After the performances, Dr. Bose joined the villagers and students for a community meal. This meal was meant to foster a spirit of unity among the people, the students, and the security forces. The Governor used this opportunity to strengthen the relationship between the SSB and the local communities.

    A Historic Border Post

The Panitanki border post holds historical significance. It was established in 2007 and is located near the Naxalbari region. This area has a past tied to the Naxalite movement in the 1960s. Today, the post plays an important role in securing the “Chicken’s Neck” corridor, a narrow strip of land that connects the northeastern states of India with the rest of the country.

Because of its importance, the Panitanki post is often a target for illegal activities. These include cross-border smuggling, drug trafficking, and illegal immigration. Dr. Bose’s visit to the border post highlights the need for continued vigilance and strong border management.

Focus on National Security and Welfare

Dr. Bose’s visit showed his commitment to both national security and the welfare of the people living near the border. He took time to meet local communities and understand their needs. At the same time, he acknowledged the important role of the SSB in securing India’s borders.

His trip also highlighted the government’s focus on improving the lives of tribal communities. Through his visit, Dr. Bose demonstrated the need for close cooperation between local people, the government, and security forces to ensure peace and stability in the region.

Governor Dr. C.V. Ananda Bose’s visit to the India-Nepal border region marks a key moment in strengthening both border security and community welfare. His efforts aim to improve the lives of border residents while ensuring the protection of national interests.
